You’ve never seen Gilmore Girls. Yes, we’ve heard of your kind. It’s like how you know that somewhere out there in the world, live people who have never tasted a Twinkie or a burrito. We know they exist, though we don’t quite understand how it happens.

Maybe you just didn’t know it was there. Maybe you did, but never took the time to check it out. Maybe you flipped past an episode on your television, lingering for a second as you watch the dialogue fly, fast and furiously, and thought, ‘Man, they talk fast. I don’t think I can keep up with that.’ And so you kept on surfing. We forgive you for that. Honest. You didn’t know what you were doing.

See, those of us who have been sucked into the world that exists in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, we know the score, and we’re only too happy to share. Gilmore Girls is a love story. You like a good love story, don’t you? Thought so.

Maybe you loved Ross and Rachel, or Chandler and Monica. Maybe it was Sam and Diane. Rose and the Doctor. JD and Elliot. Or Brandon and Kelly. Buffy and Angel? Buffy and Spike? Max and Liz, Isabel and Alex? Carrie and Mr. Big, even. We get that. We really do. A love story is a love story is a love story. And we really love a good love story.

For us, it’s Luke and Lorelai. Or Sookie and Jackson. Or Emily and Richard. Or Taylor and his town ordinances. Or Miss Patty and anything with testosterone and a discernible pulse. But first and foremost, it’s a love story about Lorelai and her daughter Rory. Best friends and partners in crime as they navigate the hay-bale maze that is life. We all love a little female bonding, right? Right.

Sure, the Stars Hollow Meet and Greet is about a bunch of ladies who love a man in flannel and who usually sports three days of facial hair growth. Who love a mother and daughter who let the wisecracks fly and the pop culture references sail over the heads of everyone around them. Who love a good festival, no matter how lame the premise.

But the Stars Hollow Meet and Greet is also about a bunch of girls who just wanna have fun. Cyndi Lauper knew what she was talking about. We suspect she was thinking about us when she wrote that song. Okay, not really, but we can pretend, right? What’s important is we would love to have you come along for the ride, and we’d love to be sitting right next to you when you discover for the first time why it’s just so damn wonderful that Luke can waltz.

We’d also like to laugh our butts off as you mangle a karaoke version of Kung Fu Fighting right after we decimate a good Bon Jovi song. Or swill coffee with you. Or hard-boiled-egg a car with you. Well, maybe not that last one. That’s probably a little too illegal. But funny!

So won’t you consider joining us? Sure, we love our Gilmore Girls. And we love having fun. But we also love to make new friends, and we’re pretty sure you would fit right in. Most of all, we love ourselves a good cause, and joining the Support Stacie cause has changed our lives, and brought us all friendships that none of us really imagined we’d ever have and would never give up for all the money (or coffee) in the world. So give it a shot. We have the prettiest Meet and Greets. Everybody thinks so.  And we want you to be part of it!  Now, go sign up and join the fun.  Copperboom!

Details and sign up information can be found HERE.

It’s that time again!

Vampire Author Auction

We’re delighted to announce a new auction coming January 15-18, 2010:  The Vampire Author Auction!

The Vampire Author Auction is open to fanfic authors in any fandom which includes vampires. This includes (but is not limited to) fandoms such as Twilight, Southern Vampire Mysteries/True Blood, Angel/Buffy, Van Hellsing, Hellsing, Blade, Vampire Knight, Interview With A Vampire, Bram Stoker and more!

Not a part of a vampire fandom but still want to participate?  No problem! First, keep in mind that we will still be holding the April Author Auction for members of any and all fandoms (though it may be taking place the last weekend of March, due to some procedures Stacie is scheduled to have in April. More on this at a later date.).   Second, if you’d like to participate in the Vampire Author Auction and you are able to incorporate vampires into your auction fic, you’re welcome to join us! Whether you write a Harry Potter/Twilight crossover or write a Doctor Who fic which features Plasmavores, so long as vampires or vampirism is a part of your story, you are welcome to participate in this auction.

The author application form can be obtained HERE.

The auction dates are as follows:
Monday, January 11, 2010: Deadline for author registration forms
Friday, January 15, 2010, 11:59pm: Auction opens
Monday, January 18, 2010, 9:00pm: Auction closes
All times are Central Daylight Time (-6 GMT)

Auction payments are due no later than February 8, 2010.  Within 30 days of the winning bidder’s payment, authors must produce their one-part story or the first chapter of a multi-chapter story, unless other arrangements are made in advance.

For those of you who are new to our auctions, this will be the 5th Author Auction held on behalf of Stacie Holeman (truelovepooh on LJ and in fandom).  Stacie has been battling Stage III ovarian and breast cancer since March 2007 without the benefit of medical insurance.  Because of her lack of insurance and over $400,000.00 in medical bills she has no access to hospital treatment and is receiving only the bare-minimum of chemotherapy.  Stacie has some procedures taking place this spring which we are particularly hoping to pay for with this auction.

Thanks to the $81,048.80 raised by Support Stacie to date, Stacie has been able to pay for life-saving medication and medical care as well as pay for a few necessary surgical procedures.  As a direct result of the treatment paid for by these auctions, her breast cancer appears to be improving.  We have a long road ahead, though, particularly with the ovarian cancer.  The need is great but we know the generosity and kindness of our online supporters is even greater.

The Author Auction serves as a writing challenge to the authors who sign up. Should you decide to join us, you would be auctioned off to write a fic on demand, within the boundaries you dictate.  So, for example, you might commit to writing a 2,500-word story that sticks to your OTP.   The winning bidder would then be able to send you a fic challenge and you would have 30 days to write the fic (or to write the first chapter, if it is over 2,500 words).

We are not selling fanfic.  We are asking authors to continue to do what they have been doing – write public domain fanfic with all rights continuing to belong to the original copyright holders.  The only difference is that in this case, the winning bidder is able to stipulate a writing challenge for their favorite author.  As with all fanfiction, Support Stacie does not make any legal claims regarding the ownership of any fanfiction which results from these auctions.

Additional details about Stacie and the auctions can be found at the following links:

Promotional help for this auction is greatly needed!   Please spread the word to all the fandom friends and fandom boards you know!  And if you are interested in donating graphics (banners or icons) for the auction, please stop by This Thread.

Thank you!

Stop by the Support Stacie Auction board to check out the auction threads which we are beginning to post! Threads are continuing to go up, so if your thread isn’t up yet, please check back later.

Please remind your bidders that after the auction ends they will need to add $5 to the cost of each auction item to be mailed within the U.S. International shipping rates can be obtained by emailing us at supportstacie@gmail.com after you have won an auction. Additional details about the auction can be found in the FAQ thread.

We’ve extended the application deadline to Wednesday, November 25th for those shipping within the U.S., so long as the donor mails out the package and emails us the pictures by that day. Just contact supportstacie@gmail.com to request the application form.

In response to requests by some of our international participants, we’ve also extended the auction closing time. Instead of running from Noon to Noon, the auction is now running from Noon on Saturday, Nov. 28th until 6:00pm on Sunday, Nov. 29th CST (Central Standard Time).

As mentioned previously, Stacie resumed chemo on November 1st. She is dealing with the standard sickness that comes with chemotherapy, but is starting to do a bit better this week as her body adjusts. Stacie spends most of her time resting and trying to avoid the many germs that are circulating at this time of year. She is taking an entirely different chemo treatment this time. The chemo for her breast cancer is a bit more mild than the last time, but the chemo for her ovarian cancer is more powerful.

There is a new forum up at the Support Stacie Auctions board for those of you who would like to chat during the auctions (or at any time!). Feel free to post your general discussion threads there about real life, fandom, or whatever is on your mind. We’ve kicked things off with a a new thread for those of you who have stories about other cancer patients or survivors you know. We’d love to keep your friends and family in our thoughts and prayers, just as you have kept Stacie in yours. Please stop by to tell your stories HERE.

And don’t forget to spread the word about the I’ll Be Homemade For Christmas Auction, Nov. 28-29! See you there!
